18 new board members join In Place of War

18 new board members have joined In Place of War’s board - music industry professionals from Roland, Resident Advisor, Shambala, NinjaTune and BMG, to advise and support the organisation.

Musicians, producers, journalists, marketers, and industry leading professionals make up the global non-profit organisation In Place of War’s Artist Advisory and Global Music Industry Advisory Boards.

In Place of War’s new board members come from FUGA, Genius, a B2B music distributor, Lila, a non-profit focused on empowering South Asian artists and professionals in the UK music industry, and digital and social media strategists at Adobe and Something Something. 60 members now make up the Global Music Advisory Board, chaired by Kim Rowell, previously of the BBC, ITN News Production, Channel 4 and The Telegraph.

Since the end of 2025, In Place of War has also seen six new members join its Artist Advisory Board, including artists BISHI and Matthew Dear, artist, journalist and Resident Advisor producer, Chloe Lula, and musician and author, Dave Randall. Each advisory board stewards and supports the work of the organisation in developing its arts programming and uplifting grassroots organisations in areas impacted by conflict, social injustice and the climate crisis.

The Global Music Advisory Board is represented across Europe, the Americas and Africa, and draws from all areas of the music and wider arts industry, contributing financial support, education, equipment, mentoring and internships as part of the #HackMusic initiative. In the last year #HackMusic has mobilised over £82,000 in economic support for 7 organisations across 7 countries, and facilitated internships with Glastonbury festival for individuals underrepresented in the music industry. The board has also helped to facilitate fundraising activities such as MUSIC SHAPED, a pairing of musical and cultural icons with visual artists to create works auctioned with Bonhams, and supporting the distribution of TAKKUUK, an audio-visual installation and soundtrack bringing together electronic music and indigenous voices.

The Artist Advisory Board provides creative input for In Place of War’s programmes and is made up of 19 individuals hailing from Brazil, Iran, United States and Myanmar. Bringing insight directly from industry as working performers, the board facilitates connections to artists, helps to raise funds and guides the organisation’s social action. Shannon Herber, Founder & Chief Consultant of Wise River Consulting, chairs the board.

Each board meets four times annually to discuss and contribute to strategic decisions, and enhance the impact of the charity's initiatives. In Place of War continues to look to involve music industry professionals in its operations.
