Marimbea / Colombia

Marimbea is an organisation that works with Afro Communities of the Pacific Coast, Colombia, designing cultural experiences involving music, dance, rites, gastronomy, and ancestral drinks. Founded in 2016, Marimbea works alongside local knowledge bearers in Guapi and Tumaco, using culture as a tool for community resilience and dignity, generating fair income for Afro-Colombian artists and tradition holders while amplifying voices that have long been marginalised by conflict and neglect.

Marimbea aims to create income and networking opportunities for the cultural workers of these violence-affected communities, building bridges between the living traditions of the Afro-Pacific region and a changing world. From the rhythms of marimba de chonta to the mangrove coastlines of the Pacific, every experience is a bridge between culture and dignity.
